ABOUT REVELATIONS

REVELATIONS is the story of two young men, Joshua Faizan and Cade Maddox who live in a small Texas town in 1961. Joshua is a third Generation Arab American, whose grandparents immigrated to the US in 1940. His father, Damien, is still recovering from the lynching death of his father in 1939. The mother, Eva, is a Texas native and immersed in the dogma of the Church of Christ. Damien fled to Eva after the death of his father. The family consists of Damien, Eva, Joshua, and his two sisters Elizabeth and Sarah.

Cade is the only son of Les Maddox, the town sheriff. Cade is a star athlete on the high school’s baseball team, but still grieving over the death of his mother a year ago. He has a strained relationship with his father.

When Joshua’s’ body washes up on the banks of Mueller’s Lake, the play becomes a murder mystery with religious undertones. It is also a critique of America’s treatment of immigrants and marginalized communities throughout our history. The play lays bare the sins of the fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters.

In my experience, people tend to interpret the bible in whatever way makes them right.
